Consider what could have happened if that skunk had been standing in the spot he ported too. Two objects in the same place at the same time?

Consider what might have happened if one of his parents had been looking into the room when he arrived. Especially given that mutants are in a situation not that different from gay & trans folks in this universe.

A lot of folks root for the heroes. More fear everyone with mutant abilities (and a lot of the folks with them get changed phsyically).

Add in a government agency (the Mutant Commission Office, aka MCO, which many call the Mutant *Control* Organization) that is in charge of mutants (and has a lot of folks who tend to be on power trips).

Then there's Humanity First. A group that makes the KKK seem like nice people.

Plus the various mutant supremacy groups.
