IMO, it should have read, "It costs more to be a woman if you fall for the BS that you must paint your nails, wear makeup and hose, etc."

I've got news for Ms. "Women view [these products] as a necessity" -- some of us DON'T. The last time I bought new makeup, it was for a glamour-photo shoot I had done in the summer of '97. I have makeup that dates back to the Regan administration, if not farther (most of the really old stuff, though, is theatrical, not street). Based on the "professional advice" on how long you should keep makeup, I'd be buying it new every time I wear it. Sorry, but I'm not spending money on mascara to wear it once and toss it ;-).

End of rant ;-)

In my opinion, this article is faulty. It makes assumptions that I think are a bit far-reaching, at this point. It's not taking cost per unit into consideration on either side ('fitb per oz' versus overall price) and there are a number of items that are not on your every day list. I, personally, would agree with the conclusion of the article... just not based off the data they presented. I have seen more than one item that was more expensive just because it's target audience was female. Also, most/all presented items are name brands, and I can say that I don't know any one person that buys all name brand, all the time. I assume there are likely people on my friends list that do, but I haven't confirmed it. *shrug* Interesting attempt, though - thanks for sharing the article.
