... everything.
Had an apartment inspection today. I hate these because there's no telling what they will and won't object to. Especially since this year there was a "check sheet you had to sign off items on (like no "clutter" and whether or not you use extension cords).
And yes, since this was from the agency that owns the building it wasn't a "we'll be choosing a few apartments at random to check". At least they gave over a weeks warning this time.
I have to thank
fayanora for coming by several times to act as "moral support". While I didn't get a lot done the first couple of days, her presence kept me from going totally bonkers.
For those who don't know, these inspections are *insanely* stressful for me.
As usual, I wound up doing the last bits (cleaning counters/stove/etc and mopping floors) *way* too late at night. And since they had made a point of noting that they wanted people awake when they showed up to inspect the apartments, I set my alarm for 8 am (they were due to start inspecting at 9)
The mopping gets to me because of the combo of a lot of standing and a lot of use of arm and back muscles I don't use most of the time. So I was a bit sore (especially my feet) when I sat down to wait for the floor to dry. After that it was toss the (by now *reeking*) clothes I'd been wearing into the dirty clothes hamper and take a shower.
I had to shave, then sit down for a bit before the shower. And I had to force myself to take the extra time to wash my hair in spite of my aching feet.
I got a very few hours of sleep before the alarm went off. And I ached in a *lot* more places. I took some acetaminophen and sat to try to kill time at the computer until the inspectors showed up. That last got interesting because I had to avoid some of the websites I normally check in the morning and avoid LJ (in both cases because I didn't want to have naked pics or worse on my monitor when they showed up.
They got to me at around 10:30. Amazingly, the only thing they said anything about were the phone and ethernet cables running from the bedroom to the living room and the phone & coax running across the living room. They wanted them covered so they wouldn't be a tripping hazard. Fortunately I had some of the cord cover stuff and it was handy. Since they just sort of nodded when I dragged it out I'm taking that as "ok". Though I'm gonna try re-routing a couple of cables anyway so they run along wals.
There's still a slight possibility that I'll get a note listing stuff to "fix" but it should be minor stuff. The only times I've had trouble before (and those are *why* this is so stressful) they told me in no uncertain terms during the inspection.
Oh yeah, the bit about extension cords? The apartment manager just said something like "oh, you are using extension cords?" and I said yes, but I was careful. And mentioned that I was using ones rated for 1500 watts. (hey, those flimsy things are pretty worthless anyway, and it doesn't cost that much more for industrial strength ones).
Actually, I learned my lesson about overloaded cords when a former housemate almost melted one...
Anyway, once they were gone, I crashed out again and slept til 4.
Still sore, and I expect I'll be dosing acetaminophen for another day or so.
Then this weekend, I get to go work on computers over at
mistresscayenne's. She was kind enough to let me move a bunch units that I was going to work on over there, both reducing clutter and providing a better work area.
