kengr: (antenna girl)
I spent the afternoon and evening at a friend's house. Actually, the same folks Lin and I have been gaming with for the last few weeks.

Since Lin is somewhere in New York state for a family reunion, we didn't game this time. Instead, I dragged over some DVDs. I also decide that since Gary is a pretty good cook, I'd "contribute" the baron of beef to the dinner.

It became a wonderful 7 lb pot roast. :-)

We futzed around for a bit with the special DVD I'd gotten free with my player. It lets you try things like different screen formats and audio. Most of which turned out to be pretty useless with their setup. You see, their set is old enough that they had to buy an RF modulator to connect the DVD player to it.

After that, they wanted to see the "alternate Council of Elrond" on my 4-disk edition of Fellowship of the Ring. They'd never seen it.

Ethan, the youngest (11?) had wandered off. Just as well. Jessica (13 going on 30, going on 6 :-) had already seen it at a friend's house, She thought the removal of the ring was hilarious.

Then Gary and Anita decided to watch Rocky Horror. And after a bit of a conference decided to let her watch as well. Ethan wandered in part way thru. Aside from asking if Dr. Frankenfurter was a man or a woman, he wasn't interested and wandered off.

I had to bite my tongue a couple of times. Mostly when Rocky was obviously interested in Janet and Jessica commented "Oops! He's straight." with a grin. I refrained from pointing out that he was rather obviously bi. :-)

Since I have the 25th Anniversary edition DVD, there were a lot of special features, including stuff on the second DVD. So we took a while going thru that. We finished up with "The Adventures of Bucakaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension".

They picked the "extended version", so they got to see scenes like the alternate opening with the "home movies" of Buckaroo and his parents (his mother was played by Jamie Lee Curtis!).

And, of course, they went thru all the extras on the disk.

I let them borrow a few other disks. My 4 volumes of the Prisoner (I really need to get the rest of the series), a double sided Babylon 5 DVD and a NASA DVD.

Hopefully we can do that again one of these days, but probably not soon.
