kengr: (antenna girl)
Lately, I've been having a nice run of luck. Won a couple of nice toys at a party, And another at drawing the Libertarian Party had at Pride.

Then I got a call today from the realtor who is trying to sell my property up in Idaho. She said the guy buying one of the odder lots wanted to find out if the survey was done.

You see, last year, I decided to have one of the blocks (think "city block") that I owned surveyed. Partly because of that odd lot. At some point someone had scooped gravel from the side of the road, and that had caused folks to start treating that part of the lot as part of the road. And it was a corner lot.

So I wanted a survey to pin down that corner, and since it wouldn't cost any more and would be good "insurance" I told them to do a survey to properly mark all 4 corners of the block.

This buyer had agreed to buy the lot without the survey, but reserved the right to back out (at a slight cash penalty) so he wanted to know about the survey

I was a bit curious myself since it had been a lot of months. I'd told them (last fall) that it wasn't a rush job, but it did seem to be taking a long time.

So I called them. And found out that the reason they hadn't gotten back to me was that they couldn't get the figures to work out. There appears to be a 10 foot error in one spot, and a 20 foot error in another!!

They recently had a survey party take another look at the mess while they were in the vicinity for something else. They are going to get their draftsman to do a "rush" on trying to get the data plotted and see if the new figures match any better.

If not, then I have a problem, the other property owners up there have a problem, the local sewer district has a problem, the county has a problem. And a survey to *properly* place the corners could get expensive. And be necessary.

My realtor and I are considering just how "lucky" we are to be the ones who may have to tell everyone that all the property lines up there may be wrong. <shudder>

On the bright side, it may mean that I get to give the local sewer district a kick in the pants. As well as light a fire under the county commissioners (who keep dumping stuff on the only access road to my unsold property)
