Date: 2004-11-10 12:40 pm (UTC)And I can attest to having noticed even just after a night, without trying to actually pass, I was taking on characteristics that I would normally be embarrassed about if I were in male clothing. And that afterwards, I seemed to still be occasionally stopping myself from following those impulses, which came more frequently than usual.
At the same time, I've noticed a lot of "female" things are actually simply natural actions based on what you're wearing. When you've got some bag slung like a purse, you tend to rest a hand on it. It's only considered a female action because men don't generally carry purses. Same with hair, I've got hair down to my shoulder blades/past my collarbone, and just to keep the darn stuff out of my face, I find myself flipping my head or brushing it behind an ear just like women do. It's just a natural reaction for people with long hair, we only associate it with women because women generally wear their hair longer than men.
Granted, I may have simply been a lesbian tomboy trapped in a man's body, but I suspect the vast majority of these "girly" actions (my word choice) are just human actions. Actually, I flat know the bag thing is just a human thing from watching people on my old college campus. Very few people ever wore backpack-style bookbags like a backpack, they wore it like a purse with a really short strap. And those single strap bookbag briefcase deals, everyone carried those like a purse and did the same "resting your hand on it" thing.
Now if I can just figure out what the difference is between men and women walking when just about everyone nowadays is wearing jeans and sneakers. There's supposed to be a difference, but I don't think my eyes are seeing it. Everyone just seems to tromp along in the same fashion. All I can think of is maybe it has something to do with heels. Heh, my wife claims she was taught in drama class that to walk like man, you had to walk like there was something important between your legs. Which oddly, is no help at all in trying to reverse engineer walking like a woman. Especially as while I know what her drama teacher was referring to, I don't know what quality he was actually pointing out. :D
Anyway, most importantly, I'm glad you had a good time and that things went well. I figured they would. :)
