Hm.. IIRC CCleaner (that's not a typo, it stands for Crap Cleaner) has a driver display and update mode... it's free and useful in other ways. It's part of my standard load-out when setting up a windows box.

Depending on what version of Windows you have, that info should also be accessible from the control panel, under hardware advanced settings. Device manager also has the option to update drivers, although it might just come back as "this is the latest driver" because M$ isn't every good at keeping their driver database up to date. Although it should be there, it's hard to find as they took away the shortcut because M$ don't like you fiddling with their configuration. You'll need to use the search function in the main menu to get that one.

As for displaying what it's doing during boot you'll need to turn off quiet mode from the BIOS settings... I can't tell you where to find that because every manufacturer does it differently. Poke around in the BIOS menu and see if you can find it. It might also be called verbose mode...
