Biology is so weird. We barely understand the more obvious aspects. Could simply have been some short-lived bug or something irritating in some food upsetting your gut. The vagus nerve would explain the rest, even the high blood sugar. Your body could have been dumping glucose into the blood to prepare for a non-existent emergency. (Engineer, not doctor, so just guessing. An engineer would design a better system. :-)
