under the weather
I'm feeling somewhat sick. Body temp isn't elevated (it's my usual degree low, in fact), but my stomach has been a bit queasy for a few hours and the other end has been threatening to misbehave. And in spite of it being 77 here at the computer, I feel cold.
The weather might be a factor (changed to cold and rainy). Most likely it's the stress of the really messed up inspection mess.
Now, you have to understand that due to my disabilities (mental) inspections are stressful. There's the stress of extra cleaning and trying to shuffle stuff around to look better (and of course mean that things will disappear for *years* because I don't recall where I put them and they aren't *quite* worth a major search). And with my allergies and other physical stuff I can only do a lot of cleaning in short bursts.
Then there's the stress of the actual inspection. I have to be here. Not their policy, just a matter of my trust issues and other things. Not being here would be way more stressful in that I'd have strangers around my "stuff".
On top of that ever since I got gigged badly on one inspection years back, they trigger the same anxiety disorder/PTSD/etc that I get from most bosses/interviewers/etc. They are placed in the class of "people looking for an excuse to fire me/kick me out/whatever.
Also, the last manager had gone from the week's notice the original one had given us, to a couple of days. That meant I was sort on sleep too when inspections came around. Towards the end she'd started giving more notice. And the new one is back to giving a week or so. This helps.
And, of course, the times were "between 8am and 5pm". Meant for a lot of stress while waiting.
So...
They had the "REACH annual inspection" in July. Reach being the outfit that owns and runs this and several other places. We had a new manager and she didn't like the clutter. And least she didn't obsess over extension cords like the last one did.
So there was supposed to be another inspection in August as a followup.
Then there as a notice that HUD was going to do their annual inspection of random units the day after that.
Next, the HUD inspection got pushed back to September. And the manager told me she'd not inspect me until then. Nut that still meant I'd had a couple or three weeks of stressing about it.
The reschedule was for Sept 10. I was cleaning and doing other things based on that.
Friday, I find a notice slid under the door. The standard legal notice that owner/management needs access to the apartment. No problem right?
Wrong. It said the inspection would be between the hours of 8am & 5pm. But the date was given as between 9/7 and 9/10.
So not only did I lose three days I'd planned for, but I'm stuck her all this week. And I have a form I have to turn in this week for my food stamps. And their hours are the hours I'm stuck here.
So I got up way too early for me yesterday. And waited. And waited. No inspection, no sign of the manager.
I was falling asleep in my chair about 10 pm, so I crashed with the alarm set for 6am (so I'd have time or a few things before they got here if they show up today and my apartment gets hit early. But I woke up around 3am and the first symptoms showed up a bit later.
I've had some chicken soup and a sandwich since then. And when I realized that the symptoms weren't going to go away I stuck a sheet of paper saying I'm not feeling well in the door. At least that way I can argue against the "tenants must be awake for the inspection" bit that was in the notice for one a while back (they haven't said anything about it since, but they never said they were rescinding it either)
I'll probably lie down in a while. And later, I'll see if Fay will come over and take the form in for me.
If they don't inspect until Friday, I'm going to be really upset. And I need to work on a note to give them suggesting some accommodations for my problems with these things.
Fixed notice intervals (it's not like they actually decide these things at the last minute after all). The week notice is good. It's time enough to work past the "freak out" and to get help if there's a problem I can't easily deal with myself. But not so long that I start obessing.
Likewise, for the random unit inspections, being notified that it's over would really help. That way I'd not have to keep stressing out until 5pm. Even better would be if they could tell me early on that my unit hadn't been picked. But I'd not be surprised to find out that HUD would have a problem with that.
It's be nicer if they could remember that I'll be stressed and try to interact with me in ways that aren't triggery, but that's probably another thing that's too much to hope for.

And Faye and I still want to go bother you at home. We just haven't gotten a round tuit.
ps. Yes, Stuff is *so* addictive. Wish I'd "blown" the 30 bucks (and a lot of effort in getting it home) on a monitor they had almost 2 years back. It was a 21" or so monitor. I looked up the specs on my Nokia 770 while Fay was looking at things.
It was a 2048x1600 resolution. *sigh*
Oh well. I'll just have to live with the 160x1200 one I got off freecycle a while back.
