Yeah. This nutcase is an extreme example. But if I had a dollar for every time I've encountered people who have the same sort of attitudes, only "milder", I could retire.

And let's not forget all the conseratives who are up in arms about the fact that a Muslim congresman will be swearing his oath on a Koran, not a Bible.

Not only is the author of this article ignoring the first amendment, he seems to not have the slightest clue as to what the whole *purpose* of swearing on a holy book is.

If the book isn't one you follow, then the oath is meaningless. It'd be like him swearing an oath on a Koran.

Never mind that Congressmen don't take an individual oath. The entire House, all 435 members, stand up and raise their right hands and take the oath from the Clerk of the House. Same for the Senate. The third of that chamber that have just been through the election cycle get sworn in as a group by the Vice President.
