One of the reasons I picked purple heart is a I have a "stick" of it. A local makert of paddle smoothed and slightly rounded his scrap into sort of squared "drumsticks". I got one in purple heart.
Alas, a friend found a hidden flaw near one end and the end broke off. She was going to replace it, but hasn't yet. And may have misplaced it. <sigh>

a purpleheart paddle would be very heavy and hard. of course, i suppose that's the point...
I've never had the experience. Their paddles are lovely. And the prices are, well, ouch.
Consider that they also have such things as *ebony* paddles. And an Aluminum paddle that they've been trying to sell for a while.
