computer driving me nuts
Been working on
fayanora's desktop for the last few weeks.
Current problem is that it suddenly decided that it *won't* work with dual monitors. Or rather, it won't display images properly on anything connected to the HDMI or DVI connectors on the motherboard.
And often won';t display proper images on the VGA monitor either if another monitor is connected. driving me nuts.

You're using the display ports that directly connected to the mobo? Have you tried it with a pCI-e gpu? (even a crappy one) that'll narrow it down to either the graphics engine or a connector issue.

And Windows Safe mode usually works ok.
so, as other online help suggests, it's a driver issue. I just can't figure out how to *fix* it.
I'm about to backup the drive and reinstall windows on it. Then go thru the many, many updates issue.
btw, do you know how to get windows to display the drivers it's loading during startup (like it does when booting into safe mode)? I used to know but can't find it any more

Hm.. IIRC CCleaner (that's not a typo, it stands for Crap Cleaner) has a driver display and update mode... it's free and useful in other ways. It's part of my standard load-out when setting up a windows box.
Depending on what version of Windows you have, that info should also be accessible from the control panel, under hardware advanced settings. Device manager also has the option to update drivers, although it might just come back as "this is the latest driver" because M$ isn't every good at keeping their driver database up to date. Although it should be there, it's hard to find as they took away the shortcut because M$ don't like you fiddling with their configuration. You'll need to use the search function in the main menu to get that one.
As for displaying what it's doing during boot you'll need to turn off quiet mode from the BIOS settings... I can't tell you where to find that because every manufacturer does it differently. Poke around in the BIOS menu and see if you can find it. It might also be called verbose mode...
