Identiying a squash(?)
Something from the food box...
It's more or less the size and shape of a small pumpkin, dark green with narrow vertical orange stripes.
Anybody know what it might be?

Sounds like an acorn squash! Very good cut in half & baked with either a hard cheese or a little bit of brown sugar.

Wrong shape for an acorn squash, alas. Doesn't have the pointy end, nor does the top indent noticeably.
But yeah, I'm probably just gonna do the cut in half and bake bit.

Acorn squash is more of a category, at this point. The flesh is what really distinguishes it -- it's mashable but not sweet like pumpkin. The heirloom ones have the point, but many modern varieties don't.
