I've had flying dreams, though usually very *awkward* ones, since my teens.
I really should go into one of the odder aspects of those. I was somewhere between the "walk" and "run" speed bands in the dreams. And couldn't steer well. So a frequent feature was spending most of the dream dodging power lines as the wind tried to barbecue me. :-)
My Whateley-verse character Flying Fox has been flying since an early age, but started out differently than any other flying character I've encountered. It started with being able to walk on air (which is much like in my dreams).
From there things progress slowly until finally the character is actually flying.
If FF pushes it she can get to the moon in about an hour. The fatrher she goes the faster she goes she doesn't have constant accel, she has constant *surge*.
constant accel: V = A * T D = .5 * A * T^2
constant surge A = S * T V = .5 * S * T^2 D = (1/6) * S * T^3
And she doesn't need a spacesuit. Nor does a person she carries. Which is often her best friend who can teleport. <eg>

Carrying boxes down some stairs and getting the number of steps wrong.
