I explore personal flight a lot in my Masks super stories. The main character has been flying since age eight, and is one of the best flyers in the world. Being physically superhuman, his top speed is limited by his flight power, and his medium-altitude limit is around Mach 3.
His niece started flying at age twelve. She is physically a normal human, so can't fly much above highway speeds without protective gear. With a high-tech space suit she can travel to the Moon in a matter of hours. (I did the math!)
In one of the stories, two of the instructors at a school for supers (both excellent flyers and both physically superhuman) put on an acrobatic dance for a talent show, to the tune of "Footloose." When the lyrics shout "You can fly!" they take to the air.
Many writers in comics have their characters talk about what fun flying is. I try to show the characters having fun flying. One TV reporter describes the main character as flying as if making love to the air.
