Where are we?
RPG types may be interested, as may SF fans. Other folks may be bored...
Your group(s) find yourselves near the edge of a large grassy plain. The sun is a couple of handbreadths above the horizon. We'll call that direction "west" for the moment, since it would appear to be setting.
To the "south" you can see a line of trees and brush a few miles off which looks like the edge of a forest Maybe a watercourse?
To the "north" stretches the plain. And the horizon looks "odd". To the "east" are hills and mountains.
So, I'll answer questions about what you can see for a while. Then I'll post again, advancing time a bit (probably a few hours).
I'm going to be interested in seeing what gets asked and what folks do and don't figure out. Characters aren't strictly necessary, but I won't object. Figure fairly ordinary humans/humanoids. No exceptional gear or abilities (ie, you could be a "quality" infantry trooper with your field gear, or a low level mage or cleric. You can't be a superhero, high level FRP character, or SF character with lots of overly high tech gear. )

Assuming you pay attention, it is moving closer to the horizon, shadows getting longer, etc. Also see #3
2. describe the grass around our feet.
Fairly normal "wild" grass and wildflowers. (Think Great Plains).
3. what's the weather (temperature, wind, sky conditions, etc.)?
Clear skies. Some haze near the horizon. Rather warm, and unless the vegetation is a lot more heat resistant than it looks this is probably the hottest part of the days and maybe even a bit past.
4. how far away do the "hills and mountains" appear to be?
10-20 miles for the "hills". With higher and higer stuff as things stretch into the distance. You can see snow on the more distant peaks.
5. what's so "odd" about that "northern" horizon?
It looks too distant. Very hazy and the like. Stuff like the occasional features (random tree, rise, grazxing animals etc) just leading your eye on and on. (ie you see something that you guess is X miles away. then you see something similar but half the size. And then another even smaller. Stuff that ought to be below the horizon. It just gets faint with the distance.
You can't tell as much about the "western" horizon because the glare from the sun makes it hard to be as sure about stuff.
looks like nobody else is playing...
Re: looks like nobody else is playing...
I will note that the sun seems to be getting a lot redder and dimmer as it drops towards the horizon.
Also, I'm not there, but figure a dozen or so other folks are. And one them is going to point out that the grazing animals that can be seen in the distance seem to be staying in groups. Which implies that there's something out there that hunts them.
Unless you are going to stay up really late, I'll post about what has changed in an hour or two ("game" time) after I get up.

And if I was there with your equipment, I'd be doing things to improve my chances of defending myself. :-)
