Ok, I've had an HP scanner/printer etc for a long time. HP 3210 if anybody cares. Haven't used it a printer in forever, but worked great as a scanner.
I left it on all the time because whenever I started it up, it'd give me a bunch of error messages about the expired cartridges (this is one of the fancy ones with *7* cartridges).
Anyway, there'd been a few power blips in the last month what with the snow and all that.
So I wasn't surprised when I went scan some docs I needed to email to a state agency to find yet another set of error messages.
Only this time, they wouldn't clear.. so I could get to the scan function. After trying a lot of things, I gave up and ordered a new scanner from Amazon (cost less than a new set of ink cartridges would).
Thanks to same day delivery, I got it and scanned the docs and emailed them off.
One of the reasons I bought a new one was because there was no guarantee that new cartridges would fix the problem. Plus, they'd likely expire long before they ran empty.
But the fact that a multifunction unit *will not* scan because of an ink cartridge problem? That's just user hostile design.
Yeah, I lost some functionality. The HP would scan to memory cards and was network capable. The new on is strictly USB, but it *works*.
Probably take the old one to Stuff and sell it. Probably recover a good chunk of the cost of the new one.
