Public Service Announcement

Yesterday, while walking to a bus stop half a mile away (you can get there by riding another bus 3 miles, so I prefer to walk) I found someone's cell phone by the side of the road. In spite of a cracked faceplate, it still worked. I did a quick glance thru things to see if I could find anything useful. No luck.

I was busy until later than I wanted to try calling, folks so I didn't go digging further.

Other than an entry labeled "Grams" (which didn't get an answer) all the entries were rather "odd". And no trace of a "me" type entry (my last couple of phones actually have a "slot" for you to put your contact info.

Fortunately somebody called a bit ago, and I gave them my number to pass on to the owner. Just got a call from the owner's brother and he's going to pick it up in a few.

Let this be a lesson though. If you phone doesn't have one, it might be work putting an entry in your contact list as "Me" with a number you can be reached at.

ETA: they showed up (on bikes) and I suggested the "Me" entry to the phone's owner.

For the geeks...

That ancient electrical engineering book I found in storage?

Turns out to be available (complete with diagrams and illustrations) from Project Gutenberg.

So if you are interested in stuff like AC wiring, power stations, or telephones (all circa 1917) check this out.
