Missing bottom rungs is the one thing I hate about Linux. There are so many 'help' guides out there that assume you know steps 0-3 and skip a couple of others because 'everyone knows that' ... essentially meaning that it either doesn't work or you need to read about fifteen other guides to build a complete picture by filling in the gaps.
